Increasingly, in our stylish contemporary homes,TVs are being wall mounted. Often replacing the traditional mirror over the fireplace as the focal point of the room, wall mounting your screen provides a number of benefits, and with well-designed fittings, it’s an easy job, whether you’re an experienced DIYer or a novice with a screwdriver.
The reasons why you should consider wall mounting your TV are many and varied, and include:
- Prevent eye and neck strain – Regular TV stands are generally nearer to the ground, below your eye level when you’re seated on the sofa, which can lead to sore eyes and painful necks, and can be especially harmful to children, or if you watch TV for long periods. However, get the height correct and you can relax in comfort. Some wall mountings provide full-motion, offering the optimal viewing experience by allowing you to angle the screen depending on the audience positioning.
- Effective solution to untidy wires – Exposed wires are not only untidy, but can lead to tripping, or being chewed by your family pooch. By wall mounting your screen, these messy cables can be easily hidden away.
- Space saving – Whether your home is sleekly minimalist, space-restricted or the opposite, has space to spare, wall mounting creates a light, airy environment, without the need for extra furniture solely for the TV to sit on.
- Safety – Once mounted correctly, a TV is firm and secure, as opposed to being at risk of a kid or pet knocking into it, potentially causing irreparable damage, but it also eliminates the screen falling on them and causing harm.
What’s the optimal height from the floor to position your TV screen?
The hanging height is measured from the floor to the centre of the screen, and there is a general rule of thumb guide based on the size of your screen.
A 42-inch screen should be around 56 inches from the floor to the screen centre, for a TV of 55-inches, a height of 61 inches provides the best viewing experience, a height of 65 inches works well for a 65-inch screen, and for a 70-inch model, hanging it at 67 inches from the floor offers the optimal height.
These guidelines work well no matter what your room size, allowing you to gain the most from your visual experience.
