Begin at the Beginning, Again – How to Reset a Samsung TV

If your usually reliable Samsung TV suddenly stops working, you might first reach for the phone to call the service engineer, but that may well not be necessary. Often you can fix this one, simply and easily, by yourself by performing a factory reset.

Often known as a master reset, it’s designed to reset the device’s configurations back to the original – exactly the same as when it left the factory.  By erasing all of the data, settings, and applications, many common issues can be fixed. However, it does mean that you’ll need to download any apps you had, as they will be deleted, as will any network settings and so on. So, it’s a good idea to make a note of anything important.

How to do a factory reset

All of the reset processes are carried out on your remote control, so make sure you have this to hand.

  • On the remote control, press menu
  • On the TV’s menu, select support
  • From the sub-menu, select self-diagnosis
  • From the next menu, select reset
  • Enter your security PIN. If you haven’t changed, the factory setting is 0000
  • When the request to reset pops up, select yes
  • This process can take a few minutes, and whilst it’s going on, the TV may restart a few times

However, if you wish to try it in stages, you can reset audio and visuals back to the factory settings, which may solve the issue without going all the way.

To reset the visuals, on the remote control

  • Go to settings
  • Select picture setting
  • Select expert settings
  • Select reset picture

For the audio settings, on the remote control

  • Go to settings
  • Select sound settings
  • Select expert settings
  • Select reset sound

See, we said it was simple!
